SLAKTATTACK
This interview was made with Yxan (vocals) and Krea (guitar) in the beginning of October 2004. The rest of the members are: Plytet (drums), Svanne (guitar) and Nippa (bass) (do I have to say that this is not their real names?).
The interview gives you all the information you need..
The idea to start SLAKTATTACK, which means slaughter attack in Swedish, was born in a kitchen in Gothenburg, Sweden around 1997-98 by Yxan and Krea. The only thing that happened then was that Krea came up with the name, as the kids was too lazy to start searching for members and was occupied with other bands, like BLOOMCORE for exemple, who split up in 2002.
Krea: -We was pissed and coulden't fight, coulden't talk and was too drunk to fight. We was sentenced to clean. (That last sentence might not mean the same thing in English as it means in Swedish. What he mean is probebly that they was born to raise hell/HRI).
The music they play is what we call Käng or Råpunk here in Sweden, which is kind of the same as d-beat HC/Punk or Crust Core like ANTI CIMEX, MOB 47 etc.. It's also known as Swe-Crust. The music is made by Svanne, and he get's his inspiration from a lot of bands. Yxan: -He eat käng/råpunk for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The lyrics are in Swedish and they can be about anything. It's Yxan and Plytet (a.k.a. Face) who write most of the lyrics, but Svanne also contribute with lyrics sometimes. Krea says that they get their inspiration from: -Capitalistic swines that we don't meet in daily life and capitalistic swines that we meet in daily life.
Yxan have also been playing in a band called F.U.C.T., who was in the vein of MOB 47 and RÖVSVETT, but that was 10 years ago. He have also, like I mentioned earlier, been in a band called BLOOMCORE, who played some kind of garage punk rock. Krea was also a member of BLOOMCORE, and he's now playing with a band called JAFFA DE LUXE.
And if that wasen't enough, Yxan and Plytet is also doing a fanzine called BACKLASH. BACKLASH was started in Tranås, Sweden as BANKA BÄVER in 1994. At that time the editors was Yxan and Lindén (ex. TURKISH REVENGE and F.U.C.T.) and Dissen (ex. TURKISH REVENGE, F.U.C.T. and DISFORNICATE, currently in BOMBDOLLS and STRIKER).
But why did they start a fanzine then? Yxan: -We thought that we would be able to do a fanzine at least as good, or better, than the fanzines who existed then in 1994.
The fanzine's name was changed to BACKLASH when issue 5 came out in 1997. The complete story about the fanzine can be read at www.backlash.se under "info".
To speak about something else but the band, I asked if they think there ever will be peace on earth.
Yxan: -As the whole world seem to be full of indoctrinated (right word?/HRI) fundamentalists (right word?/HRI) I'm sad to say the answer is: Not a fucking chance!
Krea: -What is that?
SLAKTATTACK have released 2 demos - "Lagen Om Alltings Jävlighet" (8 tracks, 2003) and "Kontaminerad" (7 tracks, 2004). They will probebly enter the studio again this winter, to record yet another 7 or 8 songs.
Krea: -If somebody want's to release something just let us know! Otherwise we do it ourselves!!
And of course I have to ask, what does SLAKTATTACK really mean?
Yxan: -SLAKTATTACK means nothing. It's just 2 cool words put together. That it was Krea who came up with it isen't so strange if you know Krea. It has nothing to do with slaughter anyway, as Krea is vegetarian to begin with.
DISCHARGE play in Stockholm, are you going?
Yxan: -Yeah, if we only had knew we had been going there... We went to Hultsfred on a 1-day ticket last year, but then they cancelled (becuse of a car accident/HRI). Was mostley walking around being pissed and drunk. Trusted myself with looking at NASUM. (You should check the concert dates at Hard Rock Info once in a while, then you woulden't have missed it/HRI).
Are you working slaves or aid takers?
Yxan: -Everybody in SLAKTATTACK have jobs. Even if we want to or not...
That and some lyrics tells me that they don't like to work, and I can understand, especially now when I have almost no sparetime becuse of shitty working hours. If it wasen't for those shitty working hours, this interview would have been up on the site for a long time ago.
The band have just done 3 gigs so far - Crustfest -03 on an island called Öland, Föreläsningsfestivalen -04 in Gråbo outside Gothenburg and a gig at Lindholmen that was arranged by SPATT - all in Sweden. There's some photos from these gigs on their website (address at the bottom).
As I know that Yxan like GUNS N' ROSES, I asked him if he think that they will ever release the "Chinese Democracy" album, and how good will it be?
Yxan: -No idea. But it dosen't look like that. If it comes out I hardly belive it will be that good. After "Appetite For Destruction" it's pretty thin with good songs from my teenage heroes.
So, how's the punk life in Gothenburg then? Many good bands, or what?
Yxan: -There's a few for sure, and I hope there's more that I haven't heared. M:PATI was the best band in a long time according to me (Yeah, they was really good!/HRI), but they don't exist anymore.
Krea: -SPATT arrange many good gigs.
As said before, SLAKTATTACK will record a couple of new songs this winter. Besides that they will try to get some gigs. Gigs in the Swedish cities Norrköping, Stockholm and Umeå this fall are already in the works, but not confirmed when this is written.
Yxan think the interview was totally o.k. They have replied 3-4 interviews before, but they have only seen 1 of them published (Noirozine - www.noirozine.com).
Yxan's last words: -Play D-beat for fuck's sake, so you understand!
